captain america fic recs

Post-CA:TWS - Bucky recovery

Parallel Constructions by freshbakedlady
There were two fics I read that compelled me to watch the movie. This is one of them. Summary: "In the absence of orders, the man wearing the face of Bucky Barnes must figure out who he will be. The answer, mostly, is 'somebody Steve Rogers can love.' Nothing so easy should ever take this much work."

your favorite ghost by augustbird
And this is the other fic that made me watch the movie. Summary: "It's harder than Steve ever expected to bring Bucky home."

The Care and Feeding of Traumatized Ex-Assassins by Sholio
Since I saw the movie, I've been reading my way through recovery fics. This is one of my favourites. Summary: "Steve starts to notice someone's been in his apartment while he's not there."

Post-CA:TWS - outsider POV

The Smithsonian Guard by galerian_ash
Summary: "Bucky makes a friend."

That Kind of Day by Neery
Summary: "Carolyn Brown's having one of those days. Her truck's been stolen, she's about to lose her job, and now a crazy Hydra assassin has broken into her apartment to ambush Captain America."

Geriatric Road Trip, 2015 by what_alchemy
Summary: "Bucky was the eldest of four." One of the Barnes grandchildren finds himself driving his elderly relatives to an unusual reunion.

Post-CA:TWS - humour

Mistake on the Part of Nature by idiopathicsmile
The one about the bananas.

Fenestration and the Art of Self Defense by Airawyn
Summary: "In which Darcy Lewis catsits for Captain America and Bucky Barnes doesn't use the front door." Marked as a WIP, but Chapter 1 works as a standalone.

Next New Message by fabrega
Summary: "'YOU HAVE THIRTY. SEVEN. NEW MESSAGES,' Clint Barton's phone announces. That can't be good." This is now my headcanon.

Karma's a Bitch by KiaraSayre
Summary: "Steve and Sam get Bucky a dog. The regrets begin almost immediately."

Post-CA:TWS - Steve/Bucky oblivious pining

last night, while I slept, they rearranged the streets by musesfool
The Avengers help Steve and Bucky get an apartment of their own, because everyone thinks they're dating. Summary: "It's like the oblivious leading the clueless."

Come To Morning by emilyenrose
Bucky knew Steve was sweet on him. Author's note: "As far as I'm concerned the real title of this story is still 'The One With Omnidirectional Pining'."

But We Can Try by hetrez
This fic broke my heart into itty bitty pieces, and patched it back up again. This is a somewhat unusual take that I love, with a Steve who isn't coping too well, and a Bucky who is trying to be his own person, and the two of them navigating the future and friendships and each other. And Steve draws Bucky a lot, and tries to put into those drawings what he can't put into words.

Learn How To Bend by nerdwegian
Summary: "In which there's terrible dating advice, terrible Starbucks drinks, and a whole lot of denial."

The Leadership Breakfast by musesfool
Bucky discovers the drawings in one of Steve's old sketchbooks.

Most Of All by thebrotherswinchester
Summary: "Five times Bucky dances with Steve." Past and present.

Post-CA:TWS - Steve/Bucky flirting

Let's Fall in Love by Desdemon
Bucky demonstrates on Steve how he flirts with dames. Steve finds it more persuasive than he should.

Post-CA:TWS - Steve/Bucky coming out

Brooklyn by togina
Summary: "'Captain America, what's your stance on gay marriage?' Everyone knows that, by now. Everyone but Bucky."

One Day We Won’t Have to Be Scared by Paraxdisepink
Summary: "Written for this prompt: Steve and Bucky are at a gay bar in the 30s, and some guy offers them money to take pictures of them as they fuck. They need the money, they say yes, and pretty much forget about it afterwards. The pictures come out years later."

Post-CA:TWS - Captain America in media

Steve Rogers at 100: Celebrating Captain America on Film by eleveninches, Febricant, hellotailor, M_Leigh, neenya, tigrrmilk
Summary: "Because wouldn't there have been a lot of movies made about Captain America after his untimely demise? Yes. Yes there would have been." The posters are classic, and the appreciation for cinematic tropes even more so.

Subjective Histories by Odsbodkins
Summary: "Extracts from materials relating to the official biography of Steve Rogers." Candid interviews with the Howling Commandos, Peggy, Howard, and others who knew the real Steve.

Pre-serum - Rentboy!Bucky

You Would Never Call Me Baby (If You Knew Me Truly) by th_esaurus
Bucky is desperate for money to help a sick Steve. He would do anything.

Guns Not Butter by reserve
Bucky gets involved with a mobster so he can give Steve all the good things he deserves. Steve, however, is not stupid.

Alternate universe to CA:TWS - Steve/Winter Soldier sleeping with the enemy

make one dream come true (you only live twice) by beardsley
Summary: "Five times the Winter Soldier evaded capture. In which there are tuxedoes, vodka martinis (shaken, not stirred), fakeout makeouts, massive property damage, a shark pit, and Steve has an Ursula Andress moment. But mostly, in true James Bond fashion, villains are seduced to the side of good."

Our Broken Parts (Smashed on the Floor) by This Girl Is
Summary: "Steve is sent undercover to catch an elusive Russian assassin. He didn't want to do it in the first place; he’s damn certain he won't be asked again."
